Pediatric Audiology
For babies and young children, the ability to hear is important for understanding the world around them and is critical for the development of their own speech. Hearing problems in young children may not always be obvious, and their ability to hear may appear to change depending on their environment.
Pediatric audiology provides a comprehensive, family-friendly, integrated screening, diagnostic and rehabilitation service, for babies and children with hearing difficulties. Hearing is screened for all or most babies in the first few days after birth, depending on individual circumstances. This allows children with hearing problems to be identified and supported early.
At Rainbow Children’s Hospitals, we will initially assess your child’s hearing with a children’s hearing test. Once the impairment is diagnosed, we create a personalized management plan to restore or manage hearing loss to support your child’s development. Your child may be referred to an ENT specialist for surgical management of hearing loss. Alternatively, we can use a combination of hearing aids and strategies to manage auditory processing difficulties to help your child improve speech and language skills, communication, social skills, and overall confidence.
